Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who was just sworn in Sunday (12/11) local time, used her first day in office to declare a state of emergency.
“I will not accept the homelessness crisis that affects more than 40,000 people and affects all of us,” he said.
“My mandate is to move Los Angeles in a new direction with an urgent and strategic approach to solving one of our city’s toughest challenges,” Bass said in the statement.
Bass, who became the first woman to lead the city of Los Angeles, signed a statement in a space called the “United Homeless Response Center,” saying she will open up the means and authority to “make sure we’re using every resource we can.”
“The use of emergency commands is our ability to quickly track something,” said Bass, who promised a “seismic shift” in tactics.
