A Chelsea resident got quite a surprise early Friday morning. Around 4:15 a.m., he was woken up to hear a noise in his house. He finally notices that a homeless person was pouring himself a glass of rum in his kitchen.

When the Chelsea resident realized that someone was having a drink in his kitchen, he simply engaged the person in conversation, who revealed their identity.

The person without a fixed address would have simply mentioned that their vehicle had broken down and that they were looking for a place to go. He did not resist his arrest once the police arrived on scene.

The police spokesperson for the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, the break-in into the Chelsea residence was not the only crime committed by this person during that night.

The alleged offender allegedly stole a vehicle in Ottawa to go to Chelsea. However, on the way, he left the road and then abandoned the vehicle and went to the residence closest to him. He allegedly stole valuable items from inside the vehicle, then entered the house, where he poured himself a glass of rum in the kitchen.

The 29-year-old man is expected to appear Monday afternoon, when he faces several charges. The MRC des Collines reminds that, even if you live in the countryside, it is important to lock the doors of your vehicle and your house.
