The Homeland vaccine against covid-19 shown to be safe in humans and to have immunogenic potential.
The National Council for Science and Technology (Conacyt) and the Avi-Mex Laboratory, SA de CV (Avimex) confirmed the safety of the biological after the publication of the preliminary results of the Clinical Phase I of the Mexican vaccine project where 90 volunteers participated who had not been vaccinated.
The Conacyt detailed that the first phase allowed to determine the most feasible dose to advance to Phase II, both booster and primary vaccination, including the feasibility of being used as a booster by the intramuscular and intranasal routes.
In this context, almost two years after the start of the pandemic, the Council stated that by 2022 it is a priority for countries to have a backup plan that guarantees the application of medium- and long-term booster doses.
For Mexico, it is a high priority to have its own vaccine against covid-19,” he said.
The Government of Mexico established an alliance with Avimex for the development of the Patria vaccine.
The project has been supported by Conacyt, which, in addition to contributing to its financing, has provided advice and coordinated Science, Technology and Innovation Committees.
The advances obtained in the Clinical Phase I of the Patria vaccine development have been possible thanks to the combined efforts and experience of 33 scientists and researchers from Avimex, Conacyt and various national and international institutions.
In October of last year, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that 180 million pesos would be invested to advance the investigation of this biological.
