Homecoming Huawei top woman Meng widely reported in China

Huawei CEO Meng Wanzhou has been received as a national hero in home country China. A welcome committee was ready at the airport of Shenzhen, the city where Huawei’s headquarters are located. The red carpet was rolled out, a delegation waved Chinese flags and sang Chinese nationalist songs.

Meng, the daughter of the founder of Huawei, has been under house arrest in Canada for nearly three years. She was arrested in 2018 at the request of the US, which suspected it of violating the trade embargo against Iran. Yesterday, after a deal with the US prosecutor, Meng was released. The two Canadians imprisoned in China were also allowed to go home.

Meng’s arrival in Shenzhen was broadcast live on Chinese state television. It showed her thanking President Xi Jinping and the communist government for their support during her house arrest. “During this difficult period, I have always felt the warmth and concern of the party, the nation and the people,” Meng said in a statement.
