Home totally damaged in fire – man in his 20s charged

Just before 11 o’clock on Monday, the emergency services responded to a fire in a semi-detached house in Kirkenes.

– The fire has been extinguished and the home is completely damaged, says operations manager Lars Rune Hagen to TV 2 at 4.30 pm.

He says that the police have arrested and charged a man in his 20s in connection with the fire.

– We suspect that the fire may have been started. A man in his 20s is accused of having caused the fire, which could have led to the loss of human life, Hagen says.

The fire started in one part of the semi-detached house. At that time, there were people in the other part of the house, but no one was injured.

The operations manager says that he can not go further into why they suspect that the fire was started.

The accused is in custody in Kirkenes. The police state that the person in question has not yet been appointed a defender.

Forensic scientists will investigate the place, but this can probably happen no earlier than Tuesday morning. We also plan to conduct interrogations and it will probably take some time before we can say something about the cause of the fire, says the operations manager.
