Home insurance: the South attracts but pays dearly

Meilleurassurance, Meilleurtaux.com’s insurance comparator, compared the average price of home insurance across the country and noted significant disparities. While they essentially vary depending on the nature of the goods to be insured and the coverage desired, the costs of these contracts also depend a lot on geography.

On average, a couple renting an apartment in the city center pays 198.56 euros in home insurance per year. But some large cities explode this amount, especially in the south of France and in the Paris region. In the upper range, we find Marseille and Paris (242 euros, or 51% more than Le Mans), Nice (239 euros), Montpellier (228 euros) and Nîmes (216 euros). “Île-de-France and the PACA region share flight frequencies that are significantly higher than other French regions, explains Fabien Soccio, spokesman for Meilleurassurance. There are thus nearly 9 burglaries per 1000 homes and this for several years. The risk of compensation from insurers is therefore greater there than elsewhere in France and the latter therefore adjust their premiums accordingly ”.

On the side of the good students we find Lyon (200 euros), Grenoble (196 euros) and especially Le Mans (160 euros).

These disparities are identical for the three profiles studied: students or young workers (tenants), couples with one child (tenants) and families with one to three children (owners). It is the latter category that pays the most expensive home insurance because of the value of their property (often higher than that of other profiles) and the wider coverage to cover the risks inherent in owning the property.
