Frankfurt am Main – Finally! After four home defeats in a row Eintracht Frankfurt VfL Bochum am 26th matchday of 1. Bundesliga in Deutsche Bank Park defeated 2:1 (0:1) after a deficit.
–
Sebastian Polter gave VfL a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. An own goal by Erhan Masovic (46′) and Daichi Kamada (52′) ensured Eintracht’s 2-1 home win.
While SGE trainer Oliver Glasner started with the same eleven as in the 2-1 away win at Betis Sevilla on Wednesday, there were five changes for the guests compared to the 2-1 win against SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
For Danilo Soares, Maxim Leitsch (both Covid-19), Cristian Gamboa (yellow suspension) as well as Eduard Löwen and Christopher Antwi-Adjei (both bench) Masovic, Herbert Bockhorn, Konstantinos Stafylidis, Patrick Osterhage and Takuma Asano ran on from the start.

The home side started energetically and had their first big chance in the second minute, but Kamada volleyed the ball just wide of the right post after a Borré cross from the right from ten meters.
After about a quarter of an hour, Bochum got the game under control and promptly rewarded themselves. Stafylidis found the head of goalgetter Polter from a 25-metre free-kick from the inside right, who was able to prevail against Martin Hinteregger and Tuta and sink the ball powerfully into the goal from close range to make it 0-1 (19 ‘).

Eintracht Frankfurt with the same starting XI as in Seville
Five changes at VfL Bochum
Lightning start to the second half: An own goal and Daichi Kamada give Eintracht Frankfurt the lead
Only a few minutes later, Gerrit Holtmann, who had started on the left, served the free-standing Asano in an exemplary manner, but the Japanese failed from seven meters at the brilliant parrying Kevin Trapp (24th).
The goal had obviously had an effect on the Adlerträger. As a result, the Hessians only managed a little offensively against Bochum, who were now also much more stable on the defensive.
Only shortly before the half-time whistle did Eintracht increase the pace again. In the 45th minute, Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann had to clear Hinteregger, who had headed a free kick from Filip Kostic under a lot of pressure but was too out of place (45′).

So it stayed with the tight guest leadership – but not for very long! Because with the first attack in the second round, the balance fell. Jesper Lindström took a shot from the right side of the opponent’s penalty area and Masovic deflected the ball into his own goal to make it 1-1 (46′).
Now the Frankfurters seemed psyched. Kostic got through on the left, crossed to Ansgar Knauff, who continued to Lindström, pushed through to Kamada and the Japanese netted from close range to make it 2-1 (52nd) – game turned!

Eintracht Frankfurt swings the narrow lead over time
Now Bochum had to come and Eintracht took it a little easier. Nevertheless, the Hessians had the situation largely under control and were waiting for quick counterattacks.
From such a 3:1 would almost have arisen. Knauff sprinted to the right in the direction of the guest goal, but his cross to the well-positioned Borré was too imprecise (68th).
The SGE had more promising attacks, but they didn’t play them all properly. The hosts failed to decide the game early and so the duel remained exciting, because Bochum smelled the chance of a point win.
In the 90th minute, Kevin Trapp deflected a shot from Jürgen Locadia forward, but was able to clear Antwi-Adjei’s sweep in a world-class manner. Therefore, it remained with the ultimately deserved home win for Frankfurt, which is now sniffing the European Cup places again.
Eintracht is already expecting next Thursday (9 p.m.) in the second leg of the round of 16 in the Europa League Real Betis Sevilla. VfL then receives on Friday (8.30 p.m.) in the Bundesliga Borussia Monchengladbach.
