The Catholic faithful will be able to know, through a presentation on the traditions of Holy Week, the meaning of Holy Thursday, the procession of Silence and the symbolism of the mattresses, as reported by the National Directorate of Cultural Heritage.
On February 14, the quarantine began, with Ash Wednesday, which is the path of preparation for the commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus, during Holy Week.
Therefore, the National Directorate of Cultural Heritage invited the population to attend the presentation “Holy Thursday, the procession of Silence and the symbolism of the noisemakers”, on February 27, in the Pink Room of the National Palace.
During the activity, data will be announced on the celebration of Holy Thursday, the day on which the population goes to the different Catholic churches to participate in the mass of the Lord’s Supper and the ceremony of washing the feet, where the priests emulate what Jesus Christ did to his disciples at the Last Supper, as a symbol of vocation to service and humility.
Likewise, the topic of the procession of Silence will be addressed (which has its origins in the representations of Holy Week in Seville, Spain, established during the 16th century), which represents the moment when Jesus was captured, whipped and then sentenced to death. death.
In the case of San Salvador, it takes place on Calle de la Amargura (6th east-west street), as an expression of faith, where Christians in an attitude of penitence and mortification, motivated by silence, meditate and remember the moment when soldiers capture Jesus Christ for his death sentence.
Also, the speakers will address other cultural expressions typical of some populations in El Salvador.
The commemoration of Holy Week is an expression of intangible cultural heritage dedicated to prayer, reflection and gratitude, to commemorate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus.
In El Salvador, people live with a lot of religious fervor, from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, a period that is immersed in the season of Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday.
The talk will take place on February 27 at 2:00 pm and will address the activities in which the Catholic parishioner participates during Holy Week or Holy Week, especially Holy Thursday..
