Holy See and Kazakhstan sign a new bilateral agreement – Vatican News

According to the announcement by the Holy See Press Office, the signatories on behalf of the Holy See are Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary General of the Department for Relations with States and International Organizations of the Department of State of the Holy See, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan on behalf of Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi. The agreement was signed in the context of Pope Francis’ visit to Kazakhstan from 13 to 15 September to participate in the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.

The purpose of this new agreement is the implementation of article 2 of the 1998 bilateral agreement, which simplifies the procedures for issuing visas and residence permits for those who go to Kazakhstan for Catholic pastoral care in Kazakhstan from abroad. . A press release from the Holy See’s press office states that the new agreement contains “a preamble and eight paragraphs”. The document “further strengthens the existing bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two parties”. This agreement will come into effect after the exchange of approval documents.
