Kalle Holmberg has had sparse playing time in Djurgårdens IF this season and has mostly been passed to the bench. Recently, Aftonbladet reported that the forward is highly relevant for a return to IFK Norrköping already this summer.
The 29-year-old has also hinted that he wants to apply for a new club.
– Of course I’m not happy here. You train and do what you have to do, but you do not get the chance. In the end, you lose patience and when another club is interested, it is clear that you listen to it, he said to Aftonbladet recently.
On Monday, Nerikes Allehanda reports that the deal is already complete and that Kalle Holmberg will go to IFK Norrköping this summer.
When Fotbollskanalen reaches Djurgården’s sports director Bosse Andersson on Monday night, he denies the information.
– It is no secret that there has been an interest from Norrköping and Kalle’s side, I know that. He has a contract that expires (after the season) and we have not discussed extension. I am well aware of his situation and that he is not happy with the playing time, however, it is the case that Kalle Holmberg is an important player in our group and he knows that himself, he says and continues:
– It is surprising that NA-sport has information that says so. We and Norrköping have not had discussions about him terminating his contract prematurely and going there. From 1 July, he is free to talk to other clubs and he has been given permission to talk to Norrköping. Then where they (the discussions) are, I can not answer.
Did Beijing want to buy him out?
– We have not had such discussions.
Will Kalle Holmberg play in Djurgården this autumn?
– As I said, from July 1, he is free to talk to other clubs. If we are to release him prematurely, we must discuss it with the club that has agreed with him. We will have to decide on this later if he has decided where he wants to play from 2023. But I have not received any such question.
In an interview with NT, head coach Rikard Norling recently confirmed that IFK Norrköping wants to recruit Kalle Holmberg.
– I see that he would speed up his career again with us. I think that and that it would benefit us, Norling said then.
In total, Kalle Holmberg has scored 15 goals and 10 assists in 72 matches in Djurgården, according to statistics from Transfermarkt.
Footnote: Later on Monday night, NA published an updated version of the article, claiming that the newspaper has “unconfirmed information” that Kalle Holmberg is ready for Beijing.
