Hollywood’s Major Film and Television Studios and Union in Last-Minute Talks to Avert Second Entertainment Sector Strike

Hollywood’s major film and television studios and the union representing 160,000 actors were holding last-minute talks on Wednesday, before a midnight deadline, in an effort to avert a second strike in the entertainment sector.

The Screen Actors Guild of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Hollywood’s largest union, is seeking damages for the IPTV as well as guarantees related to the artificial intelligence.

Union members said they were prepared to strike if negotiators could not reach an agreement, and some US A-list stars, including Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep, said they were ready to quit the profession.

They will join about 11,500 Writers Guild of America members who went on strike in early May.

The strike led to endless reruns of late-night TV talk shows and disrupted most of the fall season’s television production, as well as the shooting of some big-budget films.

The strike by the Screen Actors Guild of the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists will halt more shows and exacerbate pressure on studios to find a solution.

Hollywood hasn’t faced a double strike since 1960, when members of the Writers Guild and the Screen Actors Guild called a work stoppage.
