Financial Associated Press, October 12 (Editor Bian Chun)It looks like it may be some time before the actors’ strike ends after Hollywood screenwriters return to work. The American Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) said late Wednesday local time,Negotiations between studios and actors union SAG-AFTRA suspended

AMPTP negotiates on behalf of film companies such as Disney and Netflix, while SAG-AFTRA represents about 160,000 actors in the United States.

The Writers Guild of America has been on strike since May 2 this year, and a few weeks later, the Screen Actors Guild joined the strike on July 14, bringing the production of most movies and TV series in the United States to a standstill. However, the actors’ union ended the strike on September 27 after reaching an agreement with the studios.

Some genres are returning as writers rework, such as some popular talk shows, but it’s still not business as usual in Hollywood because actors are still on strike.

Too much difference

The AMPTP said it offered the same terms as the Directors Guild and Writers Guild on issues such as across-the-board salary increases, residual payments for video on demand (SVOD) and ratings bonuses, but the Screen Actors Guild refused to accept those terms.

The Screen Actors Guild issued a new asking price on Wednesday, and negotiations between the two parties were suspended.

AMPTP said in a statement,The differences between it and the Screen Actors Guild are “too big”,The conversation is no longer moving in a productive direction.

AMPTP also specifically noted that the ratings bonuses sought by the Screen Actors Guild alone could cost $800 million annually, creating an unbearable financial burden.

SAG-AFTRA said that actors need “a modern contract that solves modern problems” and hopes to be guaranteed salary increases, the use of artificial intelligence and a greater share of streaming revenue.
