The dispute between striking actors and studio heads in Hollywood was reflected this year on Halloween, as the SAG Afterra union asked its 160,000 members not to disguise themselves as any character from works produced by the studios targeted by the strike.
This request is directed to actors, dancers, and various workers in film and television productions, specifically the character “Barbie” from the movie produced by “Warner Brothers,” in addition to superhero characters from the “Marvel” or “Disney” worlds, and “Stranger Things” characters from “Netflix.” ».
Instead, the union advised its members to dress up for the holiday, which falls on October 31, in common costumes such as “ghost, zombie or spider.”
They can also draw inspiration from cartoon characters who are not affected by the actors’ strike, who demand to earn more when one of their films or series achieves great success on the platforms, instead of receiving a lump sum regardless of the popularity of the work, in addition to their demand for guarantees regarding the use of artificial intelligence.
The Actors Union, whose members began their strike last July, said: “Let us use our collective strength to send a strong message to employers that we will not promote their content without reaching a fair contract.”
Last week, the two parties announced the suspension of negotiations between them, despite the fact that the screenwriters and studios reached an agreement on salaries last month, ending a strike that lasted approximately five months.
However, the salary demands announced by SAG-AFTRA are higher than those put forward by the screenwriters.
Actors are demanding a greater increase in their salaries and a percentage of the profits generated by a successful work instead of receiving a small bonus.
