The company Holland America Line reported that his cruise Oosterdamafter traveling through the Mediterranean, will make a transatlantic crossing to carry out a winter season around the tip of the continent between San Antonio, Chileand Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The foregoing occurred in the framework of the celebration of the ship’s return to service, held on May 8, 2022, after the industry had been on pause since 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. In this way, the Oosterdam becomes the ninth Holland America ship to return to sea.
Specifically, the 14-day itinerary will sail to ports in Chile and Argentina, including the Falkland Islands, along with sailing the Strait of Magellan, Glacier Alley and Cape Horn. In addition, it will have three 22-day itineraries, adding four days of scenic cruise in Antarctica.
Under this context, Gus Torch, President of Holland America Line, commented that “our teams work incredibly hard to prepare the ships for return to service, and the smiles when they see our passengers walk up the gangway for the first time are very sincere and touching. Every ship going back to cruising means more team members are going back to sea, and we expect the restart to be complete next month.”
Since Holland America Line restarted sailings in July 2021, cruise ships have returned to service Eurodam, Koningsdam, New Amsterdam, New Statendam, Noordam, Rotterdam y Zuiderdam. In the case of Volendamis chartered by the government of the Netherlands to provide refuge to Ukrainian citizens in Rotterdam, as a result of the Russian invasion of the sovereign territory of Ukraine.
Finally, and for the shipping company to complete the restart of the missing ships in the fleet, it remains that the Zaandam enters service May 12 in Fort Lauderdale and Westerdam on June 12 in Seattle, Washington.
