Holidays, minimum wage, loans: that’s what April brings

Schoolchildren and temporary workers have reason to rejoice, and there’s news for fans of “Do you understand fun?” What’s changing in April:

Minimum wage for temporary work

The minimum wage for temporary workers will increase from 10.45 euros to 10.88 euros per hour on April 1st. This is above the generally applicable minimum wage in Germany.

“Do you understand fun”?

The fans of the television long-running hit can look forward to a new and at the same time very familiar face: presenter Barbara Schöneberger. As the successor to Guido Cantz, the 48-year-old will be presenting the Saturday evening show on April 2 with many gags in which the dreaded hidden camera was used. Schöneberger dismissed the pressure on ratings in advance: “If it doesn’t work, it’s not so much my fault as the fault of the viewers, who simply don’t tune in.”

Capital buffer for real estate loans

An additional capital buffer will apply to banks from April 1st, with which residential real estate loans must be secured. This means that loans tend to become more expensive in addition to the interest rates that have already risen.

Easter holidays

Millions of school children are allowed to take Easter holidays in April. As usual, the federal states have different starting dates: the northern states of Bremen, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein will start on April 4th. Finally, Saxony is following suit, the schools here are not closed until Good Friday (April 15). In Berlin, the Easter holidays take place from April 11th to April 23rd.
