Holidays in 2022. Prices up – Piotr Henicz, vice-president of the Polish Chamber of Tourism, comments

This year’s holiday is at its halfway point. – The costs of maintaining hotel and restaurant facilities have drastically increased and, on the other hand, the number of customers has decreased – said Piotr Henicz, vice president of the Polish Chamber of Tourism in TVN24 “Get up and know”. In his opinion, we can come back to the fact that “holiday trips will become a form of luxury, not normality”.

– This is the halfway point and we have to wait a few more weeks to draw the right conclusions, but everything has certainly changed in relation to the expectations. Most hoteliers and restaurateurs, after those two hard covid years, assumed – and rightly so – that this season would be the season when they would be able to make up for the losses. Unfortunately, first war in Ukrainethen inflation and enormous high prices visible in each year meant that these plans had to be slightly revised – said Piotr Henicz.

As he noted, “the costs of maintaining hotel and restaurant facilities have increased drastically, and at the same time, on the other hand, the number of customers has decreased and the demand has decreased”. – Hoteliers and restaurateurs were put in such a situation with no solution, because how can you raise prices, increase profitability, if there are fewer of these customers? This is a difficult situation for hoteliers and restaurateurs – emphasized the vice president of the Polish Chamber of Tourism.

Vacation 2022 – offers still available

In his opinion, the situation on the part of customers is “a little better”. – Only due to the fact that, despite the fact that it is high season, you can still book hotels and rooms everywhere, but the question arises whether and who can afford it – noted the guest of the program “Get up and know” on TVN24 .

Piotr Henicz pointed out that usually July and August were at a very similar level. – What has changed in recent years is that the high season was not seen only as these two holiday months, but also months such as June and September began to compete with July and August – he explained.

– How will it look like now? It’s hard to say, in fact a large part of Poles decided to go on vacation this year due to the fact that they have not traveled for the last two years and this is a plan being implemented, resulting from previous months – noted the Vice President PIT.

“Vacation trips will become a form of luxury”

Henicz noted that those people who “waited until the last minute to make a decision whether to go on vacation this year or not, are starting to wonder more and more whether it is better not to spend this money on ad hoc goals related to everyday functioning “.

– Vacation trips – weekly, 10-day or weekend trips have become more and more available in Poland for several years – I’m not saying that they were for everyone, but they were part of annual family plans – at the moment it seems to me that unfortunately we will start to come back to the fact that holiday trips will become a form of luxury, not everyday life and normality – assessed Piotr Henicz.
