During the Poetry Days, Latvijas Radio 2 (LR2) offered its listeners the opportunity to send their poetry, promising to dress it in a melody. Out of almost 300 works, Inta Kalna’s poem was chosen, from which the song “Holidays are not ending” was created.
At the beginning of September, the radio station announced a competition in which even more people responded to the call to submit their poems than last year. One poem was chosen, from which the creative team (Gints Stankevičs (songwriter and producer), Artūrs Jauntēvs (guitarist), Mārtiņš Ruskis (sung a song this year), Kaspars Mauriņš (LR2 Editor-in-Chief) and Līna Rudzone (LR2 ether personality)) On the afternoon of September, the song was composed live on LR2.
“It’s been a big challenge for the second year in a row – to compose a song on the spot in a radio studio. Of course, we just laid the groundwork, everything else was done” behind the scenes “in my recording studio (” Factory Sounds Studio “).
in my opinion, came together as intended. Mārtiņš seems to have managed to “take out” the song well,
admits music author Gints Stankevičs.
“The tradition continues! First of all, it is an opportunity for our listeners – poets, I would even say – a dream come true. And besides, we can add another song in our native language to be played on the air. In my opinion, a special” string “in this song is a string guitar Vīgants Murelis, “says Kaspars Mauriņš.
This year’s winner Ints Kalns, who admits:
“While I was waiting for the premiere, I had a big but pleasant excitement. Glad you” caught “the real message and put it perfectly into the song. I still can’t believe that it was my poem that was chosen in such a fierce competition. Thank you my dear LR2!”
The song premiered at the end of the Poetry Month and will be heard on LR2. LR2 promises to continue the tradition in the autumn of 2021 as well.
The transformation of the listeners’ poetry into a song on Latvian Radio 2 is taking place for the second year. Listen to the first year’s song created from LR2 listener poetry:
