The National Civil Protection System presented the preliminary balance of incidents attended to in the period from March 23 to 30, in which they reported 372 traffic accidents, of which 28 died and 237 were injured. “We have 28 deaths, in 2023 there were 20, basically we registered eight more, until this day,” said the director of Civil Protection, Luis Amaya.

On the other hand, the director of the El Salvador Fire Department, Baltazar Solano, reported 276 fires throughout the national territory, which represented a decrease of 9% compared to the previous year. Of these, 208 occurred in dry brush, 17 in forested areas and 24 in structures.

“As a Fire Department we have been doubling our efforts during the eight days of the Summer 2024 Plan, with the aim of guaranteeing the life and health of national and foreign tourists,” said Solano.

In addition, Amaya said that 120 drivers were taken off the road for dangerous driving throughout the country. «During this period, not a single death was recorded due to an accident caused by people in a state of intoxication; Instead, we removed 120 drunk people from the streets,” Amaya added.

On the other hand, eight people died from asphyxiation due to immersion, and the Lifeguard Unit successfully carried out 133 water rescues, of which 60 were simple rescues, with a reduction of 21% compared to the same period in 2023. Regarding deep rescues, 73 were recorded, which represented a decrease of 30 rescues compared to the previous year, when 103 were carried out.

Amaya reiterated that lifeguards were active at 110 points distributed on 28 beaches along the Salvadoran coast.

On the other hand, Solano highlighted that in the Summer 2024 Plan, inspections were carried out in businesses and restaurants to guarantee that they complied with all established security measures. “In this plan we have carried out the respective inspections in businesses to ensure that they comply with all security measures,” he mentioned.

Eduardo Godoy, governor of San Salvador, assured that more than 100,000 people belonging to the institutions that make up the National Civil Protection System were deployed. “This commitment is not only limited to the Easter holiday period, but is an example of our continuous commitment to guaranteeing the well-being and safety of the population at all times,” he concluded.
