Holiday Season: New COVID-19 Outbreaks in the Vancouver Area | Coronavirus

A resident and three employees of The Emerald at Elim Village have tested positive, according to the Fraser Valley Health Authority.

A management team is on site to ensure compliance with health measures and to trace contacts of infected people.

Visits are prohibited at the center and staff and residents’ movements are restricted within the establishment.

The management ensures that there are a sufficient number of employees at the center, that more cleaning is done and that employees and residents are screened twice a day.

Hospital always open

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Respiratory Unit at Vancouver General Hospital, visits and admissions to the unit are suspended except for visits to end-of-life patients.

The hospital remains open and urges all who need it to come to the hospital and to the emergency room. According to the facility, the outbreak has little impact on other areas of the hospital and additional disinfection and screening measures are in place to ensure patient safety.

Outbreaks over

Separately, two outbreaks of coronavirus in the Fraser Valley have now been declared over: at the PICS Assisted Living center in Surrey and the Courtyard Terrace Seniors Community center in Burnaby.

The Northern Health Authority also announces that the COVID-19 outbreak at the LNG Canada Project Site in Kitimat is over. A total of 56 employees had tested positive, but all have recovered, their contacts have been identified and there have been no new cases since mid-December.

The outbreak at the North Peace Seniors Housing Society apartments in Fort St. John has also ended.
