– We have received several complaints evenly throughout the police district. We are talking about everything from lawn mowing to regular maintenance work.
This is what the operations manager in the Innlandet police district, Bård Einar Hoft, says about the breaches of the holiday peace in the police district.
At the same time, he says that the police encourage the neighbors to talk to each other in an amicable way, before they possibly move out.
– There have been a few assignments for us. At the latest today, we had to move out to a construction site in Stange as the company was not interested in listening to the neighbors. Now that we have been on site, it worked out well, says the operations manager.

Reports of renovations in the capital
The Oslo police also report that they have received several reports of work that causes “undue noise”.
– We are talking about six pieces today already. There are very many by 10 o’clock, says operations manager Tore Solberg.
He states that the reports have been about renovating homes with hired companies and cutting stone that “makes terrible noise”.
– That people work in the garden they are welcome to do, but such noisy work, also with the use of hired companies, is not okay.
The police have responded to several of the reports. According to the operations manager, all of the accused have so far complied with the police order to end the work immediately.
– If you do not do that, we must consider other measures. Unfortunately, not everyone listens to their neighbors, but when the police arrive, people usually realize that they have to stop, says Solberg.
Quiet in the north
In the country’s northernmost police districts, Finnmark, Troms and Nordland, the police have so far received very few complaints. The few who have come in, mainly go on lawn mowing and noise in connection with carpentry work.
In Troms, there have also been some complaints about loud music in connection with the postponed Russian celebration.
– That we have a Russian celebration up here now, we notice at night, but it is not a big problem, says operations manager Eirik Kileng.
Operations Manager Anne Birgitte Arras in Trøndelag police district says that they received many reports of breaches of the holiday peace on Ascension Day.
On Monday morning, only two messages were received – about carpentry and lawn mowing, respectively. The situation is similar in Møre og Romsdal, where the police have registered three reports.
Must protect peace and quiet
Today’s law on public holidays was adopted in 1995 and has since ensured peace and tranquility on public holidays “to give the holidays peace and dignity”. The Holiday Peace Act states that “no one shall interfere anywhere with undue noise”.
Monday is a public holiday as a result of the 2nd day of Pentecost, and what would otherwise be the start of the working week is instead a day protected by this public holiday.
