How much does a ride to France cost?
At the moment you pay an average of 2.35 euros for a liter of Euro 95 at the Dutch pump. That same liter of petrol cost you 1.83 euros last year around this time and 1.56 euros the year before. The same liter cost in France about 1.50 euros last year and now, according to the ANWB, about 2.09 euros. It goes without saying that you will be more expensive with your fuel this summer. But how much more expensive, of course, depends on several factors: your starting point, your destination, the economy of your car, the location where you fill up and the type of fuel you use.
An example: if you drive from the Veluwe to Brittany, you will have about a thousand kilometers on the road. If you do that in a car that runs on petrol and consumes very average, you need around 140 liters for the outward and return journey. You fill up 40 liters of this in the Netherlands and the rest on French soil. At the current fuel prices in the Netherlands and France, that amounts to about 300 euros. Last year that amount was about 225 euros.
For cars that run on diesel or LPG, this amount is lower – but higher than a year ago. And then there is of course the toll on the French roads…
