Some things are the same as always in New York’s December of 2020. The first snowflakes are swirling through the streets, but don’t stay on the ground. A dashing wind blows off the sea across the bare trees of Central Park or Riverside Park on the Hudson River. The low winter sun only warms the sidewalks in the streets running symmetrically from east to west for short periods of time. Between the skyscrapers in Midtown Manhattan, the sun’s rays no longer reach the ground at all.
