Holger Wöckel elected as new judge of the Federal Constitutional Court by the Federal Council

Justice – The Federal Council elects new judges of the Federal Constitutional Court

The Federal Council elects lawyer Holger Wöckel as the new judge at the Federal Constitutional Court. The 47-year-old has been a judge at the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig since February 2021. He was born in 1976 in what is now Chemnitz, then Karl-Marxstadt. Walker succeeds Sibylle Kessal-Wulf, who is stepping down after twelve years in office. He is a member of the 7th and 10th Appeal Senate of the Federal Administrative Court, particularly responsible for the Environmental Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act.

The Basic Law stipulates that the members of the Federal Constitutional Court are elected equally by the Bundestag and half by the Bundesrat. The term of office is twelve years and cannot be re-elected. Kesar-Wulf now receives the resignation certificate from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and Volcker receives his letter of appointment.
