Determined to take a step forward in 2024, Holger Rune has secured the services of Severin Lüthi, Roger Federer’s former coach, after having already hired Boris Becker a few weeks ago.

Roger Federer fans don’t get carried away. If Severin Lüthi returns to service on the ATP circuit, it is not to advise the former world number one during an improbable comeback. Former Swiss coach between 2007 and 2022 but also current captain of the Swiss Davis Cup team, Lüthi will join Holger Rune’s staff for next season. He will find Boris Becker there, whom the Danish player also managed to convince a few weeks ago. A prestigious and to say the least unexpected coupling.

A milestone to pass

It must be said that Boris Becker and Severin Lüthi were often in opposing camps in the 2010s, notably the German was in the box of Novak Djokovic between 2013 and 2016. A successful collaboration during which the Serbian won 25 titles, including six Grand Slam tournaments and 14 Masters 1000. Holger Rune hopes that the advice of these two great coaches will allow him to take a step forward during the 2024 season, which will be his fourth on the ATP circuit. So far, the Dane won four titlesincluding a Masters 1000 (in Paris in 2022).

Current eighth player in the worldRune has not yet managed to go beyond the quarter-final stage in a Grand Slam tournament, at Roland-Garros and at Wimbledon, despite his good 2023 season. The Dane, aged only 20, has climbed to in fourth place in the world last August, after notably reaching the final of two Masters 1000, in Monte-Carlo and Rome (each time on clay). With his two new coaches, who between them “weigh” 26 Grand Slam tournaments, Rune hopes to do even better in 2024, starting with the Australian Open, which will begin on January 14, 2024 in Melbourne.
