Holger Rune Parts Ways with Severin Lüthi – Roger Federer’s Former Coach

Severin Lüthi is no longer part of Holger Rune’s coaching staff. The world number 7 and Roger Federer’s former coach end their collaboration after a little over a month.

The Dane’s mother and manager, Aneke Rune, made the split public. “The timing with Severin was not optimal,” she told Danish broadcaster TV 2 Sport. According to her, Holger needs a coach who is always with him and a ‘supercoach’. That is to say Boris Becker, who has been part of the staff since October. The mother justified the separation by the fact that Lüthi could not cover enough weeks to give her son the necessary continuity.

The collaboration with Lüthi was therefore very short-lived. On December 20, the commitment of the 48-year-old Bernese was announced. Lüthi then accompanied Rune to the Australian Open. But the first Grand Slam tournament was disappointing for the Dane, who was eliminated in the 2nd round by the Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (ATP 83).

Lüthi’s place on the coaching team is now occupied by an old acquaintance of Rune. In addition to Boris Becker, the Dane Kenneth Carlsen will take care of his compatriot, with whom he had already worked when Rune was a junior. ‘With this constellation, Holger gets the +flow+ he wants for his development and stability,’ hopes mother Aneke Rune.
