And goodbye! Holger Rune has separated from Severin Lüthi
Tonight Holger Rune can finally play tournament tennis again; the trip to Australia was very short with the second-round defeat against Arthur Cazaux in Melbourne. Rune enters the 250cc event in Montpellier as the number one seed and meets the Spanish qualifier Pablo Llamas Ruiz. At least as exciting as the outcome of this game is the question of who is sitting in the Dane’s box today. Because it won’t be Severin Lüthi.
“The timing with Severin just wasn’t right,” Rune’s mother Aneke told a Danish TV station. “Holger needs a coach who is constantly on the move with him. And a super coach.” Rune found him in Boris Becker last fall. For various reasons, the three-time Wimbledon champion is unable to take part in his protégé’s entire tour program.
Rune – from Lüthi to Carlsen
A replacement for Lüthi, who accompanied Roger Federer on the tour for years, seems to have already been found: Kenneth Carlsen, a former professional and compatriot of Rune, will take over the role of tour coach. Whether in Montpellier remains to be seen. Mother Aneke said: “It is absolutely right to expand the planned collaboration with Kenneth, with whom Holger trained several times as a junior. Kenneth knows Holger’s game and personality extremely well.”
Severin Lüthi will be able to get over it. Especially since the ex-professional would certainly have no problems finding a job as a coach due to his experience as a Swiss Davis Cup captain. If he even wants that permanently.
