Hole gapes in the middle of the street – two cars half sunken

It can happen so quickly: When the cars were parked on New York’s Riverside Drive, it apparently still seemed to be in perfect order.

On Sunday there was suddenly a big hole in the street on the Upper West Side. Pictures posted on Twitter show how it gave way under two cars. Both vehicles partially sank into the hole. In the meantime, they have been taken out again, as reported by the New York Post.

Mark Levine is a councilor in New York City. He takes the incident as an opportunity to draw attention to the fact that the infrastructure of the metropolis needs to be overhauled.

«The rescue workers are on site. Fortunately, there are no injuries, ”he writes on Twitter. “But this is another reminder: NYC just needs to invest more in upgrading our outdated infrastructure.”
