It was getting colder in Hokkaido this morning (the 12th), and many locations, including Wakkanai, Asahikawa, Sapporo, Iwamizawa, Abashiri, Kitami, Obihiro, Tomakomai, and Hakodate, recorded the lowest temperatures of the season. In Sapporo, the temperature dropped to -0.3℃ at dawn, making it the first winter day of the season. The place where the temperature dropped the most this morning was Shimukappu in the Kamikawa region, where it fell to minus 11.1 degrees Celsius, setting a new record for the lowest temperature of the season in Hokkaido. Also, for the first time this season, the temperature dropped below -10 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures will continue to rise slowly from today onwards, and there is a possibility that the cold tomorrow morning will be similar to or even stronger than today, so please be careful about the cold tomorrow morning as well, such as using your heater at night.

Some places had more than 50cm of snow by this morning.

The snow has become heavier since last night (11th), and the first heavy snow warning of the season has been issued for Shibetsu City, Wassamu Town, Kenbuchi Town, and Horokanai Town in the northern Kamikawa region. The amount of snowfall in the 24 hours until 5 a.m. today was 53 cm in Shumarinai, Horokanai Town, and 45 cm in Wakan. As the date changed, the intensity of the rain gradually weakened, and the warning was lifted at dawn today.
Snow will continue today, mainly in the northern part of the Japan Sea side, but the snow is expected to gradually weaken in many places from the evening onwards. Those traveling through areas with heavy snowfall, such as northern Hokkaido, should be aware of changes in road surface conditions. There are some places where winter tires are required.

It will continue to snow after tomorrow

The winter-like pressure pattern and cold air flowing into the upper atmosphere are expected to continue into Tuesday. As a result, there will be widespread snow on the Sea of Japan side, mainly in the northern part, and there is a risk that snowfall will increase even further in areas such as the Kamikawa region, which has seen heavy amounts of snow so far. There is a possibility that the snow may become stronger temporarily, so we need to continue to be careful about how the snow falls. The winter-like atmospheric pressure pattern is expected to loosen around Wednesday, and the cold air in the upper atmosphere is expected to dissipate, so the weather is likely to improve temporarily around Wednesday.
