The game is the first major Harry Potter game where you can explore all of Hogwarts and the surrounding areas. In Hogwarts Legacy you play a student of the famous school of magic around the end of the nineteenth century. This means that characters like Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore, and Voldemort do not appear in the game. However, many references to the films and characters in the game are hidden.
Players need forty to sixty hours to follow and complete the game’s storyline. After that, the game offers hours of so-called sidequests: Small playable stories and quests separate from the main story.
There is some controversy surrounding the game. This is partly due to author JK Rowling, who critics say has made transphobic statements. One of the largest game forums in the world is boycotting the game for fear that Rowling will invest part of the turnover in the fight against trans rights.
Hogwarts Legacy has been available for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox X and S since February 10. The game also appeared last Friday for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game will be released for Nintendo Switch on July 25.
