In the latest update to the Hogwarts Legacy game, controversial changenot mentioned in the patch notes: Unforgivable spells can no longer be used in the boss fight against Cassandra Mason.
For those unfamiliar with the history of Harry Potter, Unforgivable Curses are three particularly horrific spells that are forbidden from being used in the Wizarding World. This is Crucio, who torments all those unfortunate enough to fall under his influence; Imperio, which puts the target under the caster’s control; and finally, Avada Kedavra, aka the Killing Spell. It just so happens that all three Unforgivable Curses are featured in the Hogwarts Legacy, and players can learn and use them however they see fit.
While some changes have been made to the Unforgivable Curses to fit better in the video game, they basically work the same as they do in the Harry Potter books and films. This means that anyone hit by Avada Kedavra dies instantly, which is what players have used to quickly deal with some of the game’s bosses. However, according to the latest update, unforgivable spells no longer work on Cassandra Mason, which was not mentioned in the patch notes.
In the latest patch notes for the update, it was said that the developers have fixed an issue that caused the game to crash if players used the Avada Kedavra on Cassandra Mason at the beginning of the boss fight. It is possible that this, in turn, has caused issues that prevent players from fully using Unforgivable Curses on her. It is also possible that the developers did this on purpose, although the reasons for this are unclear.
Some players may be wondering who Cassandra Mason is, and that’s because she may not appear in their version of the game. Cassandra Mason will appear at Hogwarts in a PlayStation-exclusive quest, so so far only PS4 and PS5 players have been able to fight her. It is expected that later the quest will appear on other platforms.
