In addition, this newspaper revealed that the new CEO of de Volksbank Martijn Gribnau, and thus the bank itself, was still subject to the US sanctions law at the time of his appointment. That was because Gribnau still had a green card, a kind of work permit from the United States. The new CEO has now handed it in, Hoekstra reports.
The unrest has prompted Minister Hoekstra to ‘voice his concerns’ with the chairman of the supervisory board and Gribnau. The minister writes this in a letter to the Lower House.
“I find it disappointing that constructive cooperation between the board members has apparently not been possible and that this ultimately led to the departure of the CFO,” Hoekstra writes. He reports that de Volksbank is commissioning an ‘independent and external investigation into governance dynamics’.
The minister does not want to go into the matter at the state bank much deeper. He points out that his ministry has set up the NLFI, which manages the state holdings, to tackle these interests independently and non-politically.
