“It is extremely important that everyone realizes that aviation has ended up in completely different waters,” says Hoekstra, pointing to companies other than KLM where there have been major layoffs and staff have lost substantial salaries.
“There are not that many flavors on the table,” said the minister. “It is either a salary drop, or a massive dismissal, or it is bankruptcy,” said Hoekstra, who believes that Air France-KLM will have to make at least the same move as other airlines.
Hoekstra emphasized in front of RTL’s camera that capital provision by the Dutch government to Air France-KLM, in addition to the loans already provided to KLM, is not yet a foregone conclusion. Then society will have to be prepared “to change the course”.
