By emergency order, the city of Hoeksche Waard has prevented large groups of scooter riders from making the island dangerous early in the morning.
Thirty people were stopped by the police when they tried to enter the Hoeksche Waard. Three people were arrested, reports said Rijnmond. The police are talking about a ‘controllable slacker’. Laziness is the tradition of making noise early in the morning and mocking people who sleep late.
Mayor Van Heijningen had issued an emergency order for last night. Gatherings of four or more people with scooters or other motorized traffic have been banned. The mayor says he has no problem with the lazy tradition of making noise early in the morning on King’s Day morning.
But in recent years things have gotten out of hand. “In previous years we have seen hundreds of scooter, quad and motorbike riders take over the city streets and perform life-threatening stunts. This is a serious threat to the people on the street,” says Van Heijningen. “It only takes one driver to lose control of the car, slide into the crowd and then the suffering is unimaginable. So we are going to take action against the this is called slack.”
In practice, this meant that the police conducted a strict search of all access roads to the island early in the morning. On the road towards Oud-Beijerland, all traffic was even checked, with the police also using many motorbikes. “No one is allowed to go to Oud-Beijerland unless you belong there,” said a policeman around 5:30 a.m. near Rijnmond.
Finally, thirty people were denied access to the Hoeksche Waard. Two people were arrested for driving under the influence. A man from Oud-Beijerland was also arrested because he had bronze worms with him.
The police are satisfied that he has remained quiet on the island. “The emergency order helped us get it under control,” a spokesman said. The emergency order ended at 10am this morning.
This week, the police also arrested two men from Ridderkerk and a man from Sliedrecht for inciting during the Twelfth Night run. They are suspected of calling for a breach of public order on social media by showing unsafe behavior in traffic early on the morning of King’s Day.
