Wesley Hoedt will keep his fitness level at AZ in the coming weeks. The 26-year-old defender rules out that he will return to his old club next summer.
“To be clear, I will not return to AZ, as I read here and there,” said Hoedt in conversation with Sunday The newspapaer. The defender made his debut in professional football on behalf of AZ in 2013 and made the switch to Lazio in 2015.
Hoedt will be leased by Southampton to Royal Antwerp FC this season, where training will not resume until 25 May. That is why he has asked AZ, which has been on the field for several weeks, to train with it during the corona crisis.
“I don’t want to be idle for months. So I knocked on the door at Southampton and asked Antwerp if they thought it was okay. So now I train three times a week at AZ,” said Hoedt.

Hoedt hopes that he can start next season in a European top league. He thinks Antwerp cannot lift the option to buy an amount of 8 million euros, and expects Southampton not to be negative about a departure.
“Antwerp can lift the option until May 31, but I now know enough. The club has to make a statement itself, but for me it means that my time at Antwerp is over,” says the six-time international of the Dutch. team.
“I already have a number of offers in the pocket of clubs from top competitions. But I have to wait. And consult with Southampton. What is clear is that I am not waiting for a year of rent. I want a final transfer this time.”
