And the start of the season was also tailor-made for the THC women. Because at the beginning Viersen celebrated a clear 9: 3 victory at Düsseldorfer SC II. It was a dream debut especially for Lena Froneberg, who had moved from the Gladbach HTC to Viersen and scored four goals in her first indoor game. “We all already knew Lena and are happy that she has settled in so well,” said Merbecks, who together with Froneberg form a dangerous offensive duo. The captain also scored three times in Düsseldorf.
But things shouldn’t go on so carefree in the following weeks. As a result, coach Heino Jansen’s team suffered three narrow defeats against Blau-Weiß Köln IV (5-6), at Crefeld’s HTC II (4-7) and against Rot-Weiss Köln IV (6-7). “The performance and, above all, the mentality were definitely right,” says Eva Merbecks. “Unfortunately we slacked off a bit at the back in these tight games, the agreement on the defensive was no longer so completely and the last consequence was missing up front.”

The long-awaited second win of the season then succeeded against the still pointless taillight from Krefeld. Here Merbecks and Froneberg showed their qualities again on the offensive and quickly set a 2-0 lead. After Crefelder SV was able to fight their way back into the game, Jenny Thielen secured the work victory and three points for Viersen with her goal to make it 3-2. In the end, the team around the captains Marie Maaßen and Merbecks had to accept a clear 1: 9 defeat against ripped-off women from Mettmann, who, thanks to a good corner quota, went unassailable. Before the start of the second half of the season against front runner Schwarz-Weiß Neuss on January 16, the Viersenerinnen want to focus on the athletic aspects and defensive behavior during training. A sensible idea when you consider that the women from Neuss have already scored 76 goals in just six games.

The most successful strikers on the VTHC side, who have scored 28 goals so far, are Merbecks and newcomer Froneberg, who each scored nine times. In addition, Marie Maaßen, defense chief Leonie Münster and striker Jenny entered the list of goalscorers.

The men of the Viersener THC also collected six points in the short first half of the season with only four instead of the planned six games (two games were canceled due to corona). At the start in the 1st Association League Group B, Viersen turned a 0-2 deficit against Düsseldorf SC II to a 2-2 half-time result. In the last minute, Daniel Klingohr scored a 5-4 winner with a corner goal.

Against ETG Wuppertal II, the Viersener worked out a chance overweight right from the start, but – as so often in the season – could not take advantage of it and fell behind. After the change, however, Klingohr and Peter Fegers, who both scored twice, ensured the well-deserved second win of the season. In the derby against Rheydter SV you could not build on the previous performances and fell 1: 5 behind at the break. Despite goals from Philipp Eichstädt, Klingohr and Linus Tweer, the VHTC were unable to catch up and had to admit defeat 4: 6. In the favorite DSD Düsseldorf III, the Viersener defeated the clearly stronger hosts with 2: 9, here Tim Eichstädt and Klingohr met.
–
Nevertheless, the VHTC men, who have a good mix of young and experienced players, can draw a positive conclusion from the first half of the hall. The most accurate goalscorer is player-coach Klingohr, who has eight goals this season thanks to strong penalty corners and has a large share in the solid fifth place in the table.
