Ice hockey: Kurashev and the NHL: soon the end?
For the second time this season, Chicago removed the Bernese striker from its lineup. Let’s just say it’s hard to be offended…

Let’s take a cold look at the situation of Philipp Kurashev (25 years old) with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Let’s not think he’s Swiss. And that, because he is Swiss, he is necessarily the victim of injustice.
On the night of Thursday to Friday, the Bernese forward was removed from the Illinois club’s roster before the regular season match against the Florida Panthers, winners of the 2024 Stanley Cup.
He was healthy. But his coach Luke Richardson felt that his recent performances no longer justify a guaranteed presence among his twelve best attackers. “I think he needs to play more intensely in all areas of the ice,” explained the coach.
This is the second time since the start of the 2024-2025 regular season that Philipp Kurashev has been scratched from the lineup. Before the duel against the Panthers, his club was 32nd and last in the general ranking of the North American professional league.
Terrible stats
The Swiss therefore lost his place within the worst team in the league with a record which does not justify a welcome by the municipal fanfare.
18 matches, three goals, one assist.
And a differential of -18.
The worst of the worst squad in the NHL.
Even if Luke Richardson says he will help Kurashev “undertake a reset of his game”, we also guess that the Blackhawks are ready to make another call and that they are irritated by the lack of consistency and involvement defense of a player they drafted in the 4th round in 2018.
While Kurashev’s two-year contract with a seasonal value of 2.25 million US dollars (a pact agreed by a judge at the end of a salary dispute between the club and the player) expires at the end of this season, we won’t fall out of our chairs if the Bernese were traded.
As long as the Blackhawks find a dance partner.
Or, if that wasn’t the case, soon demoted to the American Hockey League after being placed on waivers.
Because there are dozens of guys who are ready to sit in Kurashev’s NHL chair.
PS: Chicago beat Florida 3-1.
