On the day when the Nati qualified for the World Cup quarter-final against Finland, the then Raeto Raffainer (38) Nati coach Patrick Fischer (44) suggested that the daily conversation be held on the roof of the team hotel for one time the then Nati director and current Davos sports director told in the Tamedia podcast “Eisbrecher”.

The successful duo then experiences a shock moment high above the roofs of Copenhagen. «You could see well down on the fan mile, where the game Sweden – Russia was broadcast. Fischer started taking pictures of it with his cell phone, »says Raffainer. “Suddenly the door opened, two armed police officers pushed us against the wall, we had machine guns on our temples.”

“It wasn’t that clever”
The reason for the excitement: the hockey hit was classified as a high-risk game and provided with appropriate safety measures. “They had seen us from below and thought that we could be assassins on the roof,” says the HCD boss and can now laugh about it. “It wasn’t as smart as we were on the roof, and yes, it was my idea, I take the blame.”

Fischer and Raffainer couldn’t miss the momentum. The Nati surprisingly won two days later against Finland and then the semi-final against Canada. Only in the final against the Swedes was the final stop in the penalty shootout. (Sr)
