BOLZANO – Former Czech hockey player Jaroslav Pavlů, who won three titles with Červená hviezda Brno (now Kometa) in the 1950s, died at the age of 87. Later he also played for Pilsen.

He worked in Bolzano from the 70s, where he became a club legend. The Italian club announced his death on its website today.

Pavlov won the Italian league four times with Bolzano as a player and twice as a coach. He first worked legally in Italy for three years, then decided to emigrate. In Czechoslovakia, he received two years in prison for this and returned only after the gentle revolution, when his sentence was revoked.

Pavlov played hockey until he was 46 years old. His son and grandson also followed in his footsteps, both already in the colors of the Italian national team. Son Martin took part in seven world championships of the elite category and with 227 matches for the national team he became the Italian record holder.
