NEW YORK – Hockey forward Patrick Kane underwent hip surgery, after which he will be out for four to six months.
The 34-year-old American, who can become a free agent on July 1, will likely miss the training camp before the new NHL season, which he could join in the early stages.
Kane’s operation was reported to the overseas media by his agent Pat Brisson. The three-time winner of the Stanley Cup and holder of several NHL awards had problems with his hips both at the end of his long-term work in Chicago and in the second half of the season and the playoffs in the New York Rangers jersey. After the operation, Kane should make a full recovery and intends to continue his career for a long time.
If he returns to form, he will be unstoppable
The native of Buffalo has played 1180 games in the NHL so far, in which he scored 1237 points (451+786). The overwhelming part of his career was spent in Chicago, which made him a draft pick in 2007. A year later, Kane was named the league’s best rookie and won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
In 2016, the prolific wing forward won the scoring competition and received the Hart Trophy for the best NHL player.
Kane left Chicago after 16 years at the end of February when he was traded to the New York Rangers, who also picked up half of his $10.5 million annual salary. In the first round of the playoffs, the Rangers were eliminated in seven games by New Jersey.
If Kane manages to return to his earlier form, he can attack the record of Mike Modano, who with 1374 points is the most productive American hockey player in the history of the NHL.
