Mannheim (dpa) – After the confirmed interest of the Czech Ice Hockey Association in a commitment, coach Pavel Gross managed the next victory with the Adler Mannheim. Under the responsibility of the 53-year-old, Mannheim defeated the Straubing Tigers 3-1 (2-0, 1-0, 0-1).
As hoped, the title aspirant followed up after the 4-1 win in Düsseldorf on Sunday. The Finnish Adler new signing Markus Hännikäinen scored in his first game for the Adler.
It had previously become known that Gross was under discussion as an assistant coach for the Czech national team. Gross’ contract with the top team in the German Ice Hockey League runs until 2024. There have been rumors of a premature separation for weeks.
In the German Ice Hockey League, the Eagles are still third in the table. Table leaders Eisbären Berlin asserted themselves 4: 2 (1: 1, 2: 0, 1: 1) in Bremerhaven.
In the relegation battle, bottom of the table Krefeld Pinguine gave a sign of life after four defeats in a row. The Krefeld team won 3:2 (0:0, 2:2, 0:0, 0:0) after a penalty shootout at ERC Ingolstadt. Thanks to a strong final third, promoted Bietigheim Steelers clearly won 5:1 (1:0, 0:0, 4:1) at the Nürnberg Ice Tigers and moved further away from the bottom of the table.
