A total of 13 more players were added to the list of those sidelined on Tuesday due to the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol. Four Hurricanes, three Flames, two Bruins, two Canucks, one Oilers and one Avalanche are added to the roster.
In addition, Tuesday’s game between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Minnesota Wild has been postponed. Carolina added forwards Jordan Staal, Andrei Svechnikov and Steven Lorentz to the roster, as well as defenseman Ian Cole.
The Flames have confirmed defenseman Noah Hanifin and forwards Milan Lucic and Sean Monahan have been added to six other players and one staff member in league protocol.
The NHL postponed three Flames games; they will not play until Saturday at home, against Columbus. The team’s training facilities were also closed. Calgary is the third club to see its season interrupted by the virus, after the Senators and Islanders.
The Bruins have meanwhile sidelined forwards Brad Marchand and Craig Smith due to protocol. They won’t face the Golden Knights in Boston on Tuesday, and their absence could be as long as six games. The Bruins played in Calgary on Saturday.
At the Canucks, a training scheduled for Tuesday morning was canceled after defenseman Luke Schenn and forward Juho Lammikko contracted the virus. The team is awaiting additional results, in view of the visit of the Blue Jackets in the evening.
Vancouver hosted Carolina on Sunday. On Monday, the Hurricanes put Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis and a staff member on the sidelines on Monday.
The Canucks were the club hardest hit by COVID-19 last season with 21 players and 4 coaching staff testing positive.
Oilers center Ryan McLeod and Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews have also been added to the list of those sidelined due to protocol.
