NEW YORK – Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams announced on Friday that construction has begun on a $72 million affordable housing development in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx.
The new development, to be called Bedford Green House II, will create 46 affordable flats for families and seniors and 70 support flats for the homeless. The development will also house a 2,300 square foot medical clinic that will offer services to residents and the surrounding community.
“With this milestone, we are one step closer to delivering hundreds of affordable and supportive housing units to families, seniors and the homeless in the Bronx,” Governor Hochul said. “As our state faces an acute housing shortage, critical projects, like this Bedford Green development, are vital to ensuring all New Yorkers have a safe, stable and affordable place to call home. housing crisis and look forward to working with Mayor Adams and other state and local partners to make affordable housing available to all.”
Bedford Green House II is part of Governor Hochul’s sweeping plans to make housing more affordable, equitable and stable. In the FY 2023 state budget, Hochul introduced and successfully secured a new $25 billion five-year comprehensive housing plan that will increase housing supply by creating or preserving 100,000 affordable homes across New York, including 10,000 with support services for vulnerable populations, as well as the electrification of another 50,000 homes.

Bedford Green House II also reflects the plan’s objectives “Hosting Our Neighbors” by Mayor Adams to help New Yorkers have safe, affordable, high-quality housing. The city’s first housing plan to cover the full range of New Yorkers’ housing needs and options includes a commitment to accelerate the creation of supportive housing and complete the promised 15,000 supportive homes by 2030, two years ahead of schedule.
Bedford Green House II will consist of a newly constructed seventeen-story building located at 2880 Jerome Avenue. Bedford Green House I, the first phase of this two part development, was completed in December 2021.
All apartments will be accessible to families with incomes equal to or less than 60% of the area’s median income. Support unit residents will have access to rent subsidies funded through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative and administered by the New York State Office of Mental Health.
Fifty-five apartments will be reserved for seniors 62 years of age and older through the New York City Neighborhood Quality and Affordability Amendment and the provision of affordable independent senior housing.
Residential amenities will include a library and learning center, free high-speed internet access in each unit, and a shared courtyard with Bedford Green House I. Residents will also have access to Bedford Green House I amenity areas, including park games and the greenhouse on the roof .
