Hochul and Adams Announce New Affordable Housing for Brooklyn – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK — Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams announced Wednesday the opening of Logan Fountain, a mixed-use project developed as part of the 2016 East New York redevelopment that will transform a former gas station into a affordable housing units, transitional housing for homeless families and new retail space.

The project complements Governor Hochul’s sweeping plans to make housing more affordable, equitable and stable. In the FY 2023 state budget, the Governor introduced and successfully secured a $25 billion, five-year comprehensive housing plan that will increase housing supply by creating or preserving 100,000 affordable homes across New York, including 10,000 with support services for vulnerable populations, in addition to the electrification of another 50,000 homes.

“Across New York, we are making targeted investments that increase affordable housing opportunities and provide supportive and transitional housing for families who need it most,” Governor Hochul said. “Housing and economic development go hand in hand, and Logan Fountain is a perfect example of how Mayor Adams and I are working together to bring new homes, new services and new businesses to neighborhoods in every borough.”

Located at 265 Logan Street, Logan Fountain is being designed as a hybrid model that will include an affordable and supportive housing component and a family retreat in a 13-story building. The east wing will consist of 69 affordable homes for low-income families earning 50 to 70 percent of the area’s median income and 105 homes for the homeless.

The West Wing will consist of 169 units for homeless families served by the New York City Department of Homeless Services. The building will also include approximately 7,677 square feet of ground-floor retail space along Atlantic Avenue. The project was designed by MHG Architects and will be built by Broadway Builders, a subsidiary of The Hudson Companies.

Logan Fountain will offer a variety of services to its residents. In terms of supportive and affordable accommodation, amenities will include a fitness center, landscaped common courtyard with a children’s play area, multiple garden terraces, bike storage, and laundry. As for transitional housing, families will have access to indoor and outdoor childcare spaces, bike storage, and laundry facilities.

“Projects like the Logan Fountain are critical to revitalizing East New York and communities across the city,” Mayor Adams said. “This project will transform a disused gas station that offers nothing to the community into affordable permanent housing, safe beds for our homeless neighbors, and commercial space that serves the community, all with easy access to public transportation. excited to see this important project moving forward and can’t wait to celebrate with the New Yorkers who will call it home.”

Logan Fountain is located two blocks from the Norwood Avenue J subway station and a short walk from the Euclid Avenue A subway station.

Construction began in August and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

The project is a key component of the 2016 East New York redevelopment, which will bring $16.7 million of capital investment to the neighborhood. In developing the investment strategy, the city engaged with the community in 2014 and created the Eastern New York Community Plan to prioritize the need for new infrastructure, parks, community facilities, affordable housing, and support for small businesses.
