We have talked about it several times in recent days, but obviously it is not enough if many users have actually decided to abandon WhatsApp to switch to Signal. This is another messaging app that, in many people’s heads, won’t involve a privacy update and new terms to be accepted by February 8th. Unlike what the automatic message from the WhatsApp team tells us. A huge misunderstanding we’ve talked about several times a week, trying to reassure everyone in Italy and the rest of Europe, but apparently our efforts have not been enough.
The hoax that leads to abandoning WhatsApp for Signal after privacy update and new terms
The issue is complex and, we tell you right away, the WhatsApp staff has done nothing to make it clearer. In particular, many are willing to switch to Signal and are already doing so, to the point that the team had to explain su Twitter for what reason they register delays in sending the verification code:
“Verification codes are currently overdue from several providers because so many new people are looking to join Signal right now (we can barely contain our excitement). We are working with the technicians to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Hold on“.
Given that everyone is free to switch from WhatsApp to Signal, it must be borne in mind that the question arises from the hoax on the alleged privacy update and on the new security terms imposed on February 8th. This is not the case, because the two platforms work with the same security standards and with the same end-to-end encryption.
As reported by the site of BBC, Facebook, which owns WhatsApp, has publicly stated that European and British users will not see the aforementioned data sharing changes implemented, although they will have to accept new terms by February 8. Therefore, here with us no updates on privacy and terms of use, but above all no security difference between WhatsApp and Signal.
