Those of you who have read gaming news over the past week, of course, already know about Sony’s plan to redefine the Playstation Plus service. That there is no longer just one, there will be three options at three different price levels for gamers to choose from. For countries that support streaming services – Playstation Now, the highest tier is “Playstation Premium” which will offer the option of not only 400 PS4 and PS5 games to enjoy, but also 300 extra PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 games on it. Of course, the PS3 is only available via streaming services. What happened after this announcement happened? As one might predict, hoarding.
The reason? Rational, because the price options are now much friendlier. The cost of a Playstation Now subscription for one year is USD 59.99 while the cost of a Playstation Premium subscription later for one year is USD 119.99. This hoarding occurs after Sony’s confirmation that gamers who have subscribed to Playstation Now will be automatically converted to Playstation Premium when the service is ready. Not a few gamers immediately extend their Playstation Now service for the next few years.
As if not prepared and predicting this to happen, Sony immediately took extreme steps. They suddenly withdrew and eliminated sales of Playstation Now 1 year for the markets that this Playstation Premium will go to. Playstation Now will now only be available in 1 month format. But as could be predicted, despite this move, gamers continue to find loopholes to buy a 1 year old Playstation Now which is apparently still available in several ways.
Of course, this situation doesn’t affect us – Indonesian gamers who unfortunately don’t support the Playstation Now feature and will only get Playstation Deluxe (without PS3 game streaming service). Will the cat-and-mouse chase between Sony and fans who want to buy PS Now for 1 year end in victory for fans? Let’s just wait.
