Tang Chi Thuong, vice director of the municipal health service, said that since the emergence of the COVID-19 epidemic, the health sector has actively implemented the field hospital model in the districts. by Cu Chi and Cân Gio. They specialize in isolating and treating patients with COVID-19.

Currently, faced with the complicated situation of the epidemic, and following the directives of the city, the Municipal Health Service has developed a plan to respond to the situation where 5,000 people are affected by COVID-19. There are around 2,000 beds dedicated to welcoming COVID-19 positive patients, including 200 intensive care beds for seriously ill patients.

Thus, according to this plan, some hospital buildings will be transformed to become establishments specializing in the reception of patients positive for COVID-19. These are the Tropical Diseases Hospital and the Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital. Pediatric hospitals 1 and 2 have independent buildings, under the contamination service, which specialize only in the reception of children affected by COVID-19. Cho Rây hospital will set up a resuscitation service specializing in the reception of severely ill adult patients. To date, according to these new guidelines, all hospitals have completed their development work to receive COVID-19 patients.

According to Tang Chi Thuong, “the hospital cut in half” stems from the Korean model which has already proven itself in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Two schemes will therefore be applied: converting certain hospital services into specialized services for the treatment of COVID-19 cases and certain hospitals divided into two parts so that one half becomes a unit specializing in the reception and intensive care of patients with respiratory symptoms.
