The HNA blood donation campaign is entering its 22nd round.

Kassel – Under the motto “Because saving lives together is even more fun”, people from Kassel and the surrounding area have the opportunity from Monday, August 15 to Friday, August 19, daily from 12 noon to 6 p.m. in the colonnade wing of the Kassel Congress donate blood to the Palais Because this is urgently needed.

Especially in the summer months there is a lack of blood. The camps are not completely empty at the moment, but: “It’s getting very tight for some blood groups. In particular, the universal donor 0 Rhesus negative is significantly missing,” says Rolf Zarberg from the DRK blood donation service in Hesse. Around 800 to 1000 blood units are needed in Hessen every day. The blood donation service can currently still serve this. “But we also like to have a supply for three to four days, for example for the weekend or for emergencies,” says Zarberg. It’s not enough for that at the moment.

The fact that the supply situation with blood supplies in northern Hesse is not yet too critical is mainly due to the fact that some hospitals have been operating less for a few weeks, says Zarberg. “Many employees in the clinics are absent due to illness.” For example, due to corona infections or other illnesses such as the summer flu. Fewer surgeries also require fewer blood supplies.

Nevertheless, Zarberg emphasizes, the German Red Cross (DRK) is urgently dependent on blood donations. That’s why the HNA blood donation campaign, which is one of the largest initiatives in all of Germany, is starting for the 22nd time just in time for the holiday season.

The aim of the DRK is to collect a total of 3000 blood donations in the Kassel Stadthalle in the week from August 15th to 19th – i.e. 1500 liters of blood. Up to 660 donors per day can register. That’s another 200 per day more than last year.

As a small thank you, every donor will again receive a voucher for a two-hour ticket for the Kurhessen thermal baths in Kassel or a Cineplex Capitol cinema ticket this year, as long as they are available. The entrance to the blood donation campaign in the colonnade wing of Kassel’s Kongress-Palais in the Vorderen Westen, Holger-Börner-Platz 1, is at the back on Heinemannstraße. Parking spaces are available.

Registration: To donate blood, an appointment must be made in advance – either online at zu.hna.de/spende22 or by calling the toll-free number 08 00/ 1 19 49 11.
