We first heard about HMD in early summer 2016 when it became known that the company will take over the Nokia brand in the smartphone market. Now the company’s CEO Jean-Francois Baril has announced via Linkedin that HMD will start releasing smartphones under its own name.
The Nokia phones will, however, remain and Baril promises collaborations “with exciting new partners”. Baril claims in the post that HMD Global is the fastest growing manufacturer of 5G smartphones and at the same time underlines the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.
HMD should now be ready to “enter the market independently and create a new world for telecommunications with a focus on consumer needs” (translated).
