HMD announced plans for 2024 including Barbie flip phone, and new “iconic model” with Nokia branding

HMD Global, a brand that produced smartphones from Nokia in recent years, it has taken advantage of MWC 2024 to release various information about its future. After presenting its first cell phone with its own brand last year, the company promises several new features, including a Barbie flip cell phone and models with the Nokia logo.

According to the company’s official statement, a partnership was signed with Mattel toy companyto put Barbie’s name (and potentially other characters) on their devices.

Little is known about Barbie’s cell phone so far, but it was announced that it will be a flip model – i.ea feature phone with simpler features compared to smartphones. Its launch will take place later this year.
Collaborations with other brands will also be carried out throughout 2024, but HMD will only announce partnerships at appropriate times.
Nokia remains
Another important information released by the company is the continuation of the partnership with Nokia, showing that the brand’s models will coexist with those that bear the HMD name.
Furthermore, during the summer (or winter in Brazil), a new cell phone considered iconic from Nokia will make its return. However, it is not yet known exactly what this model will be, nor its details such as format, features and more.
Repairability and customization
Repairability was another topic highlighted by Nokia, as one of the company’s goals will be to make cell phones that “not only attract attention, but are also kind to the Earth.”

According to statistics shown by the brand, a quarter of the cell phones sold by the brand in Europe were highly repairable models. The objective is to increase this proportion to three quarters this year, in addition to half of the devices sold on a global scale.
The brand also highlighted that it will make it easier to repair essential components, such as the screens of your smartphones. It is possible for the company to create a home repair program like Samsung’s Repara Contigo, but this has not been confirmed at the moment.
Finally, the company also announced the creation of a development toolkit, including dimensions and other details of hardware which make it possible to create accessories or other items that can improve the experience of using HMD cell phones.
More details about HMD’s various announcements are expected to be revealed over the coming months, including the launch of new devices and initiatives. The brand officially operates in Brazil, but its latest launch on national soil took place in May 2023so there is no way to say whether the new HMD models will arrive in our country.
