HM King Mohammed VI’s Initiative: Transforming Sahel Countries’ Economies and Global Integration

HM the King’s international initiative to promote access of the Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean is a powerful lever for transforming the economies of these countries and their integration into the world economy, said Saturday in Marrakech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabés abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré.

Speaking during the Ministerial Coordination Meeting on HM King Mohammed VI’s Initiative to promote access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, the head of Burkina Faso diplomacy stressed that “at- beyond the expression of active solidarity, this initiative is a call for recognition of the rights and values ​​of landlocked countries in the global economy.

“Burkina Faso welcomes any initiative aimed at transforming its continentality into an asset, because it is clear that our countries have remained impoverished for a long time due to inappropriate policies,” he continued, noting that HM the King’s initiative is perfectly in line with the ambition of the Sahel States to capitalize on their enormous potential by minimizing the burden of isolation through an effective and growth-enhancing infrastructural integration policy.

Highlighting the scope of this Royal Initiative, the Burkinabè minister indicated that the countries of the Sahel will work “to appropriate it and to succeed in this immense project”.

Organized at the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita, this meeting saw the participation, in addition to the head of Burkinabe diplomacy, of the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens abroad, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabés abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, as well as the Director General Africa and African Integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chadians Abroad and International Cooperation, Abakar Kourma.

With regional and international scope, the Royal initiative aimed at promoting access of the Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, was announced in the Royal Speech addressed to the Nation on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the Green March. This initiative is an extension of the constant efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, for a prosperous Africa.

It offers unprecedented potential capable of providing adapted solutions to strengthen regional integration and cooperation, the structural transformation of the economies of these sister countries and the improvement of the living conditions of the Sahelo-Saharan population, in the framework of an innovative and integrated approach promoting stability and security in the region.
